This year the Alternative Theatre Festival takes place at the MERLiNTheatre. As always, the Festival gives an opportunity to the independent theatres to present their latest productions. The program includes dance and theatre performances or sometimes the mixture of the two. The competition program was selected by István Szalai-Szabó, the director of the City Theatre and Sirály. The judges are Iulia Popovici (critique), Árpád Árkosi (director) and György Pálfi (filmdirector).

Krisztián Gergye Company - Bárka Theatre: Péter Nádas: Encounter
Directed by: Krisztián Gergye
Encounter is the first piece of Krisztián Gergye's Nádas-dramatrilogy in which the combination of text and movement serves as the main point of the performance. Further information: www.gergye.org/Encounter

Bladder Circus Company: Kant
Kant, with his wife and parrot travels to America in order to become an honorary doctor at the Columbia University. The play is based on Thomas Bernhard Immanuel Kant, with the translation of Ágnes Matkovics.

Sputnik Shipping Company: Luke Rhinehart: The Dice Man
Directed by: Viktor Bodó
Unhappy psychologist Luke Rhinehart decides to determine his life with the help of luck: he starts to use a dice to his decisions. The production is based on Luke Rhinehart's 1971 novel, The Dice Man.
